Rose Kalemba.

Finding Rose Kalemba’s media content made me aware of a lot of the media I consumed and the battles that she, alongside others, is to triumph.

Over my lifeguarding summer of 2020, I had to reflect on my media usage of Pornhub. Rose’s story BROKE my usage of the media platform Pornhub.

*cough*

As a gay male, I have used Pornhub. A website I was able to use to find hot dudes gettin’ it and gettin’ off.

My intent for my usage of the site was to get off…a quick relief to satisfy my sexual tension.

Harmless, right…?

In my eyes, yes. For others…not exactly.

Reading Rose’s story gutted my usage of the site because of the injustice the internet can have towards people like her and the humanity that doesn’t seem to exist by those harassing her from a time that was no fault of her own but her headass abusers.

Nevertheless, Rose is able to shift her identity into a stronger one and fight for her voice to empower and help those around her. Witnessing Rose encounter spineless enemies behind a screen is a battle I can relate to…a trigger that pushed me to help her and helped motivate myself to be more aware of the victims of websites like Pornhub and people with similar experiences.

I hope for those with similar experiences to one day be free from their abusive situations, to find peace, relief, justice.
